Each of these word clouds represents the terms used within BBC match reports for each individual side during the 2011/2012 season. All twenty of the sides that competed in the Premier League during last season are represented. These word clouds give an indication as to what players were mentioned most during the season. From the clouds you can ascertain that Arsenal’s match reports often mention “van Persie” and that “Suarez” and “Dalglish” were two terms often used in Liverpool match reports. Ultimately they’re just a bit of fun and I wouldn’t read too much into them.

It’s interesting to see United’s Champions League opponents Basel mentioned in the cloud as is the prominence of the word “City”. Rooney remains Manchester United’s most influential player (in match reports anyway) with the likes of Hernandex, Berbatov, Nani and Welbeck also prominent.

West Bromwich Albion are another club who will be scouring the land for a new manager after the incumbent Roy Hodgson left to take the England national team job. Players such as Peter Odemwingie and Ben Foster feature heavily in the word cloud.

Tottenham Hotspur joined the long list of clubs that will be looking for a new manager before the start of next season. After a successful period at the club Harry Redknapp was sacked as manager of Spurs. His car window interviews will be missed by the press who loved his “no-nonsense” style. His popularity with the press is evident from the BBC Match Reports. “Redknapp” was one of the most used terms in Tottenham match reports during the 2011/2012 season.
